Jail Ministry

Several of our members are also involved in Jail Ministry, which is held on Sunday afternoons at the Ottawa County Correctional Facility. This ministry is a great opportunity to share the Gospel with those incarcerated in our county jailhouse. The men and women in these circumstances are often broken and receptive to hearing the Gospel. Countless individuals have come to the saving knowledge of Christ through this outreach program.

Founded by Pastor Bickelhaupt in 1986, Grace Baptist Church moved to its current campus in 1993. As an independent, evangelistic, fundamental, missionary Baptist church, we adhere to the King James Bible (1611) and support many missionaries worldwide, embodying Acts 1:8 and upholding core beliefs like Christ’s deity and the Scripture’s inerrancy.

Our Beliefs
Our History

Grace Baptist Church is an independent, evangelistic, fundamental, missionary Baptist church. We hold to the belief that the Bible (1611 KVJ) is the only inspired Word of God. Therefore, we believe that every Word therein is true and that the Bible is the final authority on all faith and practice.

Independent means we are not a part of any denomination. We are autonomous and completely governed by the members of the congregation as described in the Bible.

Evangelistic means we are deeply committed to the command of Acts 1:8 to be a witness. Not only should the way we live our lives be reflective of the witness within us, but we are also commanded to aggressively reach the lost with the Gospel.

Missionary means that we are serious about Mark 16:15 and Matthew 28:19-20, which tells us to “go” to every creature with the Gospel. Grace Baptist Church presently supports over 50 missionaries in the United States and around the world. We have even commissioned our very own missionaries to New Zealand, The Freyer Family. Missionary support is raised through a “faith promise” program. Through it, our missionaries receive over $50,000 annually.

Fundamental means we believe in the basic fundamentals of the faith: the doctrine of the deity of Christ; His virgin birth; the blood atonement; the bodily resurrection of Christ; His visible, pre-millennial return to the earth; the absolute inerrancy and infallibility of the Scripture; and the use of the King James Version (1611) of the Bible. Grace Baptist Church will not compromise on these doctrinal positions.

Grace Baptist Church opened its doors to the Village of Oak Harbor in 1986. Pastor Richard (Rick) Bickelhaupt was lead to the town soon after his call to preach the Gospel. From renting the town’s local American Legion Hall to the first purchase of an old church building on the corner of Church and Ottawa Streets, God has greatly blessed the ministry to its current location just west of the village. In 1993, God answered prayer with granting a site to build on, and Grace found its permanent home on Toussaint Portage Road between State Routes 105 and 163.

Since 1994, the campus has gone through four major building expansions to accommodate our growing congregation. The church has endured many growth processes over the past 40 years and plans to continue its work for the Lord in and around the community. We have a wonderful, spacious facility with a sanctuary, classrooms, nursery/toddler rooms, kitchen, large fellowship hall and more to meet the needs of discipling people to follow Christ. It is a place where ministries abound and people are consistently reached and discipled for Christ.
